Manchester United vs Brighton ended with a scoreline of 2-1 with Pogba scoring his 5th under Solskjaer while Rashford netting in his 150th game of Manchester United as well. With that victory, Manchester United have now moved up to the 5th position in the league, three points ahead of Arsenal who is currently playing Chelsea.

United initially announced an unchanged starting XI from the last game but had to replace Luke Shaw just minutes before the start due to illness, which resulted in Ashley Young moving to the left, Dalot coming on in place of Shaw on the right and Darmian taking up a spot on the bench. Fit-again Alexis returned to the bench along with Lukaku and Mata as well.

The game started as usual with Manchester United pressing high and looking to attack every opportunity. Brighton looked shaky to begin and offered too much space for the United’s full-back to go forward and attack. The first goal came in when Pogba was awarded a penalty after being brought down in the box which he himself scored emphatically. United was cruising easily in the game and just before half time, it was again a brilliant solo goal from Rashford, netting his 8 of the season which is his best tally so far. Manchester United went into the first half break looking as if more was to come, as Brighton adopted the 5-4-1 formation in the hope to salvage the attack.

No changes were made at the half time from either of sides and the game continued the same way for the first few minutes. Then suddenly Brighton picked up some pace and got a goal from nowhere. They were always looking threating from set pieces but got a goal from open play. The scenario changed suddenly as Lukaku who was ready to be brought on was directed back to the bench and Mata was called upon to stabilize the situation in place of Lingard.

Although Brighton changed to 4-3-3 and started to look way more dangerous once they scored still, United was comfortable at the back and eventually somehow just hung on to the lead as they did in the last game against Spurs.

Lukaku finally came on in place of Martial and as per the attacking mentality of the new management, Manchester  United tried to regain the two-goal advantage instead of staying back and defending but were denied any such opportunity. Pogba again was brilliant and celebrated his goal with the baby dance indicating the recent birth of his first child. Anthony Martial specifically looked threating in the entire game and had created few excellent opportunities on that left side including one following a beautiful long ball from Lindelof.

Rashford who has been in the form of his life of late seemed to have impressed everyone with his work rate and dedication on the field. He looked like to create an opportunity every time he got the ball and Lukaku will have to continue warming that bench for some time now. Lingard’s movement was again good but he missed a clear cut tap in from a cross out of nowhere from Rashford. The midfield and defense were solid and Lindelof is slowly and steadily confirming himself as the Number 1 CB of the team.

Manchester United vs Brighton did not particularly end as per the likings of Solskjaer but he would be happy with another 3 points and a 100 percent record, as United are now 7 in 7 under him. There is still a lot of scope of improvement in the team but its good the team is winning, which in the end is the most important thing.
