With the appointment of Solskjær as the caretaker manager, the talk now is about who Manchester United should buy in January or should Manchester United even buy players.
Rumors are in that Solskjær will have a budget of around 50 million for January and he himself confirmed that he will have say in the transfer business. Although seeing the fate of recent signing the club would be careful in bringing in any new player. The club in any case should make sure that if any player is brought in, the incoming manager should not have any problem with it. In other words, the player should be picked up only after thorough discussion as this will be a big investment.
If United are already in discussion with someone to take over at the end of the season, then getting their point of view will also be very important as it is them who are going to take this team forward.
If we consider the noticeable changes in the playing style and most significantly in the atmosphere at the club in Solskjær’s first two games itself, it seems worthy that he is granted some budget so that the he can improve his squad and try to take out something from this season.
United only bought in Fred, Dalot and Grant during the summer transfer window with Grant being a third choice keeper. Jose was clearly vocal about the lack of signing and it is evident to everyone that the current squad is not complete and still needs a CB or two, a midfielder and a proper right winger to challenge the top teams.
We have been drawn against PSG in the Champions League and seeing their attacking lineup headed by Cavani, Mbappe and Neymar it is obvious we need to be much better if we wish to move ahead in the competition. And for that the best approach will be to buy someone who would be a value add to any manager or any squad and not someone who is brought in considering only the team’s current weaknesses and his shirt sale values.
Another point would be considering someone with proven premier league experience. The main aim of the signing will be to improve and it would be of no use to bring in someone who takes time to settle and adjust to the style of play in England. And most importantly if we sign players in January transfer window, it should not be a panic buy.
I personally believe that United lacks a decisive figure at the back like it did earlier and finding someone to fill that gap will be the only thing United should be looking to do now and if that is not possible we should surely wait for the summer transfer window for all our business. Toby Alderweireld seems to me the apt choice as he fulfills most of the criteria discussed above. Further more we also need to be ruthless and sell some of our players in the current squad who are just not good enough any more to wear the Manchester United shirt.
Who do you want to see in the squad ?
